Apple Home School homework communication, Parent Letter — Early Phase Communication & Homework System

Dear Parents,

As we begin the next phase of Apple Home School, I want to share our updated communication and homework process. My goal is to give students a safe, structured, and enjoyable way to learn digital skills while giving parents complete visibility and confidence in the process.

This early phase focuses on five essential Apple apps that build foundational skills:

  1. Notes – typing, drawing, Apple Pencil

  2. Freeform – visual thinking, organizing, creating

  3. Messages – supervised homework submission

  4. Camera – photographing handwritten or physical work

  5. Photos – reviewing, editing, and attaching images

Homework will take place inside these apps, and students will practice important skills like typing, organizing, copying and pasting, taking screenshots, attaching photos, and sharing their work responsibly.

How Homework Will Be Completed

Students will complete their homework in Notes, Freeform, or by using the Camera app to capture their handwritten work. All of these methods are perfectly acceptable and part of the learning process.

Parents may choose whether or not to share Notes with me. If Notes are shared, I will be able to view homework directly. If they are not shared, that is absolutely fine—the student will simply show their homework during Zoom or submit a screenshot or photo through Messages.

How Homework Will Be Submitted

When homework is complete, students will send one supervised message to me in the Messages app. They may choose any of the following:

  • Copy and paste their work from Notes or Freeform

  • Send a screenshot of their homework

  • Send a photo taken with the Camera app

Any of these methods are appropriate. The goal is not only to confirm homework completion but also to help students practice navigating multiple apps and communicating clearly.

Students will also have the opportunity to share their screens during our Zoom sessions so that I can review their work with them live.

Parent Supervision & Safety

All communication is visible to parents at all times. Students will only message me about homework, and only during appropriate hours. There is no social chatting, no calls, no video outside of scheduled Zoom lessons, and no communication on any social media platform.

The system is designed to give parents complete comfort and to teach students healthy digital habits from the start.

Communication Hours

To keep things predictable and balanced:

  • I will respond between 3:00–6:00 PM (Monday–Friday)

  • No communication after 7:00 PM

  • Weekend replies are optional and limited to homework review

Students are not expected to wait for immediate replies. Their responsibility is simply to send their work when they finish.

Why This System Matters

These early lessons teach more than academics—they help students build digital confidence and responsibility using the same tools they will grow into over the coming months and years. They will learn how to:

  • Write in Notes

  • Create visually in Freeform

  • Capture photos of their work

  • Navigate Camera and Photos

  • Use Messages responsibly

  • Share their screen in Zoom

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully

This foundation will prepare them for more advanced lessons as they grow.

If you have any questions or would like to customize the communication process for your family, please let me know. I appreciate your partnership, and I’m excited to continue this learning journey with your amazing kids.

Warm regards, Pops (Jim)
